KONE is a well-known Finnish company that manufactures elevator equipment, passenger lifts and other lifting mechanisms. For her many years of experience she has found partners in more than 100 countries of the world and has become the first among all the others that has been working in the CIS countries for 70 years. On the official website of the company you can find complete information about all the largest shareholders from around the world.
The history of KONE began in 1910. Then it was called Osakeyhtiö Kone Aktiebolag and was founded as a subsidiary of Gottfr. Strömberg Oy in Helsinki. During the First World War, she additionally engaged in the creation of brass sleeves. Since 1918, the company has been engaged in its own production and installation of elevator equipment. And despite the fact that at that time the staff numbered not more than fifty, the company showed high results in the number of manufactured products. Already in 1924, entrepreneur Harald Herlin bought KONE and became the new chairman of the board of directors. He located his office in the former place of the Margarine Factory. In the CIS, the first elevators from this manufacturer appeared only in 1935.
During its existence, the company had to undergo a considerable number of different problems, which in many respects were directly related to the two Soviet-Finnish wars. But neither tough war reparations, nor other situations broke the company and could not prevent its further successful development. In 1957, management announced the creation of a new foreign branch in Sweden called AB Kone Hissar. Continuing to develop and create new solutions for improving the quality of their products, the highly qualified specialists of the company optimized the work of their production as much as possible.
Since 2001, the company began its cooperation with a large multinational corporation Toshiba and acquired 20% of its shares. Having united their forces, they managed to become the leading enterprises for the production of escalator mechanisms and take the second place among other world companies in the field of the elevator industry. Today, KONE is a successful leading company that develops some of the best components for lifting mechanisms used by billions of people around the world.
